Level Two Report Writing
Updated: Dec 28, 2021
The report is Task Two of the Level Two Writing Exam.
With Level Two reports the main aim is to be logical and clear. In the report you must give a clear description of a situation and then give a recommendation for the future.
It is important to use headers (small titles) for each section. This helps the reader know what the section is about.
Let’s take a look at an example:
TASK TWO
Write a report to your CO. Write between 150-200 words.
There has been a terrorist attack in your AOR. Describe the incident. Include the following points:
time, date, exact location
attackers (how many? armed? any caught?)
victims and damage
action taken by your unit
recommendations for the future
The five bullet points don't have to be used to make five sections, but it is important that the sections form a logical and clear division. Let's now have a look at the sample report below:
Incident Report
Introduction
The aim of this report is to inform about a terrorist incident that took place in our AOR on 3rd November 2021.
Details of Incident
On 3rd November 2021 at 11:34 am a car bomb was detonated in the central market of Green City in the south of 1st Bn’s AOR. Initial reports from local police and witnesses suggested that the bomb was detonated remotely. No terrorists were observed near the incident. Approximately 4 people died and 23 people were injured in the initial blast. The market and the surrounding buildings were heavily damaged by the explosion.
Action Taken
At 11.38 local police contacted our unit’s Ops room and requested immediate support. The QRF was sent to the scene of the attack and they secured the area. Soon after this our medical units arrived and started giving first aid to the survivors.
Recommendation
It is recommended that a permanent liaison officer be sent to work with the local police in order to improve cooperation if any future terrorist incident happens. Also it would be a good idea to organise a joint training exercise with the local police.

As you can see above, the report is factual and impersonal. Passive voice is used to give the correct formal style. Please click on the link below for a downloadable PDF.
